Illinois River outfitters open and safe for floating Labor Day Weekend, despite recent heavy rains

August 29, 2025

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Illinois River float outfitters will be open for business and sending floaters down the river on Labor Day Weekend according to local float outfitters.

Following recent rainfall events, the river will be at safe levels for floating on Saturday, August 30. However, due to moderate water levels and safety protocols, outfitters will be sending floaters down the river on rafts.

River levels are expected to drop throughout the weekend into next week, which will make for great floating conditions.

Visitors are encouraged to call local outfitters ahead of time and follow all safety guidelines while on the river. Life jackets are required for all floaters.

The Illinois River remains one of Oklahoma’s top outdoor destinations, drawing thousands each year for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities.

For updates on river conditions or to book a float, contact your local outfitter.
